During the course you’ll study the technical side of web development, alongside supporting you in gaining an in-depth understanding of web design, visual design and moving image (animations and videos). The aim of this is to help you gain a wide range of skills, which are in demand from employers and our placement providers. During your course you’ll study how to design and create content and experiences for a range of devices such as smartphones, tablets and watches as well as traditional computers. You’ll explore technical subjects including web development, artistic video effects and graphic design. You’ll also work on projects in teams creating complex products, which will support you in developing your technical, design and project management skills. Assessment is based on assignments, typically one assignment per unit. These assignments will vary and include a mix of formal reports, presentations and practical tasks, but there will be no formal exams.  You won’t have to write any exams during your HND; instead you will focus on gaining practical, applicable skills through real-world case studies and group and individual assignments.  Learners are assessed using a variety of methods, including group work, tutorials, lectures, seminars presentations, role play and case study analyses, written assignments. All units will be individually graded as ‘passes, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’. To achieve a full qualification you must pass all 8 units to achieve the higher certificate and all 16 units to achieve the higher diploma.

Successful completion of the HND Computing Web Design will allow entry on to the third year at the university through a Top Up programme and choose from a wide range of BA/BSc (Hons) Computing degrees.

A range of skills is supported by this provision and graduates will be well positioned for a variety of careers. Roles can be pursued in the areas of web development, website management, usability evaluation, test engineer, support or management of web based systems, new developments and projects.

  • Applicants are required to submit proof of prior certificated learning (e.g. Secondary School Diploma/Baccalaureate/Level 3 qualification) or relevant work experience;

This programme has been designated by the UK government for Student Finance, which means that UK/EU students may apply for Student Loans. If you are a UK or EU undergraduate student, you can apply for funding from the government. You do not have to pay your tuition fees up front if this is your first degree – you can get a tuition fee loan to cover your full course fees. You may be eligible for maintenance loan and some extra support as well, depends on your circumstances. You only start to pay back your student loan after you finish studying and are earning over £25,000 a year.
