Student Loans UK 2021 – Everything you need to know

Loans often come with a bad reputation, especially student loans. But is that so? Should you fear student financing? Should you avoid it and should you try to pay for university yourself? We’ll answer these questions in the following article and we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the topic of Student Loans UK in 2021.

Ignore the price tag. What really matters is how much you have to pay back

Let’s start with what is probably the most important issue. The price tag is what often scares people away. You see a sum of money that looks too high for you to ever pay back and you think that a student loan is not for you. But this is wrong. The price tag, in this case, is completely irrelevant.

What matters is how much you have to pay back.

This depends only on one thing: how much you earn after college. Those who earn a lot after graduating or leaving university will repay a lot. Those who don’t gain too much financially from going to university will repay little or nothing.

Biggest secret of Students Loan Uk – You only repay 9% of everything earned above £27,228 per year

This is very important. We talked above about what drives people away from loans and we agreed that you should not look at the price tag, but rather the amount you have to pay back. Well, what is this amount?

It is not a fixed number. Once you leave university, you only repay when you’re earning above £2,274 a month. This is about £27,228/year. And event at that point you only pay back 9% of everything you earn above £27,228/year.

When you look at it like this, that loan is not as scary anymore, is it?! Of course it is not. And this is not all. If, after you start repaying the loan, you lose your job or your earnings fall below the threshold, your repayments drop accordingly.

But what if I have a job that doesn’t pay that well?

If you have a low wage, you pay little or nothing at all. And you should not feel bad about this. The system for student loans UK is created in such a way that those who gain the most out of university contribute the most. It is created like this so that everybody wins.

Your debt is cleared after 30 years

You start repaying the loan from the first April after graduation. 30 years after that point, your entire debt is wiped. That’s right. After 30 years, you don’t have to repay the loan anymore. It doesn’t matter if you earn above the threshold or if you haven’t paid back the entire sum. After 30 years, your student loan just goes away.

This is why so many people nearing retirement who want to earn a degree actually get a student loan and go to university to study something that has always interested them. If they don’t have a huge pension, they won’t have to pay anything back.

There will be no debt collectors knocking on your door

A lot of people fear debt collectors. This fear is connected to that regarding student loans. But here’s the deal. With student loans, there are no debt collectors.

So how do you pay your loan back? It’s very simple and you don’t even have to do anything. Your student loan is paid just like the income tax. Your employer deducts the repayments from your salary before you get it. Everything happens automatically. Your privacy is completely protected and you will never have to go through embarrassing situations.

Think twice before paying your tuition fees upfront

We can agree that loans are no joke. They are as serious as it gets. But they are also tools created to help the borrower.

In fact, what really makes a loan scary is the borrower’s lack of discipline. No matter the type of the loan, if you have a plan and you follow it, you can both put the loan to good use and repay it without any headaches whatsoever.

It’s the same with student loans. You may think that you don’t need one, that it’s better for you to just pay your tuition fees upfront, but that is a huge mistake. Just consider what we’ve talked about so far.

What do you plan to study? Will those courses guide you to a high paying job? They might not. Different industries pay different salaries. So even though you may spend as much or even more time and effort on your social media marketing courses, you probably won’t earn as much as someone who studies programming and who plans to work in the IT sector.

If you know you’re not going to earn above the £2,274 a month threshold and you’re OK with this, then why spend your own money on tuition fees?! It really makes no sense. You can just get a student loan, study what you love, get a job in that particular field and then just go on about your life without giving even a second thought to that student loan that you will not have to pay back. In 30 years, it will go away, and you will have studied at university for free. This is the magic of student loans UK.

The advantages of online courses

The Covid-19 pandemic has proved one important thing to us all: we can study online. We can study online and we should. There are numerous advantages offered by online courses. All we need to do is to sign up.

Online courses aren’t something new. They’ve been around for some time, but we never actually got to notice them. With last years’ pandemic, however, we got to see all the benefits that they offer. With the age of the internet becoming more and more present, we now have to wonder how much more time will pass until online courses become more popular or even replace traditional courses.

This is probably the next step. And it’s not just because of the world becoming more and more dependent on life online. Online courses offer numerous advantages. Here are 10 of the most important.

10 advantages of online courses

Online courses are convenient

You don’t like to get up early in the morning, do you? No worries. Nobody likes that. With online courses, you never have to get up early in the morning. Teachers and classrooms are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Your only excuse for missing a class will be your internet connection breaking down.

Other than that, you’ll have access to everything you need in order to learn the things that you want to learn. And you’ll be able to learn everything on your own time.

Felxibility

With online courses, you can study when you want, but also where you want. This means that you will be a lot more flexible. Are you going on a trip and waiting for the plane to arrive? You can just open your laptop and start one course. This way, when you finish work, you will be able to spend more time with your family and friends.

Education for the entire family

One very good thing about online courses is that they get the entire family interested. If you ever tried to study at home, you know that your children, your parents or your significant other often times get sucked into the experience. They spend time learning together with you.

Online courses focus on the individual

A teacher in a crowded classroom can’t and won’t focus on a single student. With an online course, it is all about you. You can discuss the course with the instructor, via e-mail, and you get answers to your questions directly.

Many students don’t feel comfortable asking questions in class. The often don’t do it, because they are afraid they will look stupid in the eyes of their classmates. With online courses, this does not happen! Ever.

You can still socialise

Critics of online courses often say that when taking such a course you don’t make any connections with other people. This is simply not true. You can still socialise even if you study online. A lot of people do, via bulletin boards, chat rooms and mailing lists.

And that’s just where the connection starts. Students often form groups and these groups often move offline, at a local library or coffee shop.

You develop your computer skills

This is one advantage most people overlook when it comes to online courses. But in today’s tech savvy world, it is really important to know your way around the computer. Even if you choose to study something like marketing or accounting, the fact that you do it online means that you have to develop your computer skills. Even if you don’t want to. You just have to. Otherwise you won’t be able to find the things that you need.

Once the course is over, you will have not one, but two new skills. And also let’s not forget how important computer skills are nowadays.

You become accustomed to learning

Online courses grow curiosity. They simply do. Once you study something and you start to do your research online, you will become hooked to this awesome tool that is the internet. As you get more and more comfortable with it, as it becomes easier for you to do research, you’ll notice that you will start yo rely on the internet more and more.

Once you find something that sparks your interest, you will just go online and find out more about it. You will continue to learn more, to gather more information and to never stop learning.

You will be much more efficient

Taking a course when you want, where you want means that you can optimise your schedule and that you can become much more efficient. It is all up to you. If you decide to do it, with online courses you definitely can.

You will also learn self-discipline

Self-discipline is key if you want to become more efficient. Again, it is all up to you. You know your schedule so you know exactly when you waste time. And that is the perfect time to study online. Instead of just doing nothing, open a browser and start learning. This way, you will get a lot more free time to do what you want.

There are also financial benefits

Last but not least, we have one benefit that many would place at the top of the list. Studying online, at home means that you save a lot of money on gas, transportation, parking, student housing and a whole lot of other expenses. And if that’s not enough for you, just consider the costs of missing work in order to make it to class in time.

These are just some of the things that online courses can help you out with. Try one out and see what it can do for you.

Students in the UK want refunds as they face a third successive year of online courses

Covid-19 might not be causing as many problems as it did last year, but it’s still giving people a lot of headaches. As UK universities are looking to offer a mix of in-person seminars and online lectures next year, students are having none of it and are even asking for their tuitions back.

It would be a third consecutive year of online courses. That’s why students are taking action and are demanding for at least a part of their fees to be refunded.

“It’s just not fair to charge £9,250 a year for YouTube tutorials,” Rhian Shillabeer, a second-year politics student, stated for the Guardian. She wrote an open letter to her university asking for more in-person learning. The letter received a lot of attention and signatures from hundreds of other students.

Universities, however, are blaming the government, as guides for social distancing on campuses are still not published. Their main priority is, it seems, to avoid another Covid-19 outbreak. It’s probably understandable. but so are the points raised by the students.

They should not have to pay for an experience they are not getting. Going to University is not only about learning. It’s also about growing as a human being, learning new experiences and becoming independent. You can’t do that from behind a computer screen.

And then there’s the financial part of the issue. Why should you have to pay for the full university experience when you’re going to spend most of your time online?!

Why not go full online? Attend online courses and use your spare time for something else

What’s important is that everyone understands that it’s really no one’s fault. For universities, it’s probably hard to refund tuition fees, as they need them to survive. And it’s definitely not fair for students to pay for something that they won’t get.

But the solution is actually pretty simple. Since online courses are already available, why not sign up directly for them?

Online courses are easier and more efficient. Most importantly, you will save a lot of time on traveling. This means that, once courses are over, you will be able to go to work or do whatever you want to do. You will be a lot less tired and a lot less stressed, as you won’t have to worry about Covid-19-related issues such as social distancing, vaccinations and even getting sick.

If you’re looking to go to university, in order to learn everything you need so that you can start your dream career, really consider online courses!

How to get a university degree for free

Is there such thing as a free university degree? Yes it is. Even in today’s modern world, where cash is king, you can get a university degree for free. Here’s what you need to know.

There are many ways for you to get a university degree for free. However, before we start, we need to clarify one thing. When we say that you can get a university degree for free we mean that you can study for free at a good university, where you can work hard and get your degree. So, if you plan on doing nothing and still getting a diploma, you should know that’s never going to happen.

But if you are not afraid to work hard that university degree you want so much can be yours. You can study at some of the best universities in the UK, with some of the best teachers, and, when you finish, you can be sure that your diploma will carry some weight. And the best part is you can study for free, even if you’re an international student.

Here’s what you can do:

Study abroad! If you’re an international student, come to the UK

Tuition fees are soaring in most places, nowadays. However, there are still some countries out there where you can study for free or for a very low fee, which is almost like studying for free, when compared to what you might have to pay somewhere else. The Scandinavian countries, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, Germany or France offer such opportunities.

These opportunities are also available in the UK, but with a few extra steps. The British government is very pro-student. It offers student financing to everyone interested in studying in the UK. And this goes even for international students.

All you need to do in order to receive these funds is to contact student recruitment agencies such as Atlantic London. With more than 10 years of experience in this field, Atlantic London is now the largest agency of its kind in the London area. Its portfolio includes thousands of students, both native-born and international, who have managed to make their dreams come true.

If you want to get a university degree for free, give Atlantic London a call or check your eligibility online free of charge.

You can get a university degree for free if your yearly income after graduation won’t exceed £27,228

There is only one thing you need to know about the student loan. You only have to pay it back if you remain in Great Britain after graduation and if your yearly income exceeds £27,228. If you never earn above this threshold during the following 30 years, your loan will be written off.

So, if you know that you want to work in an industry where you won’t earn more than £27,228 per year, you should definitely get this loan.

Try crowdfunding

It may sound funny, but it can actually be a pretty great move. Crowdfunding means that you ask people you don’t know and will probably never know to help fund your degree. And you may not believe this, but many people are already doing it successfully. It is not a sure thing and you might have to work harder to get it than you would for the loan, but it can help you study for free.

Visit sites like crowdfunder.co.uk and see how they can help you out.

Sponsored degrees

It is the same as crowdfunding but, instead of a crowd, you get just one sponsor to help you out. This solution is not uncommon. In fact, many international students actually study abroad with the help of sponsors. The only catch is that they may have to come back to their countries and work for the companies that sponsored them, once they graduate.

Most companies are not afraid to invest in competent employees. The big ones, in industries such as IT, do it all the time. Don’t be afraid to go knocking at their doors. Even if you have to come back to work for them after you get your degree, chances are that you will get a good job with a good salary.

Degree apprenticeships

This is another kind of sponsored degrees. The British government introduced degree apprenticeships in 2015. The program means that students can both work and study at the same time. Your employer will cover all the costs.

Full tuition fee scholarships

Last but not least, everyone’s favorite, the full tuition fee scholarships. These are not very common, but everyone wants one.

There are scholarships which pay your entire tuition at both undergraduate and graduate level. All you need to do is to study hard and earn one. It is all up to you at this point.

What are the expenses of someone studying in Great Britain

Before we go any further, we should talk about the possible expenses students might meet with in the UK. On average, a student will spend £25 – £30 per week for food. That’s if he or she buys groceries instead of going out to eat. If it’s the latter, than those expenses will definitely rise.

Students will also spend about £100 – £120  per week if they choose to stay in a college dorm. This cost, of course, depends on the college or university. However, if the student chooses to rent an apartment together with friends, those expenses might drop by a lot. In fact, this is one of the most popular solutions right now.

Buying a prepaid phone card will cost £5 per week, with the same amount being spend on an internet connection. And utilities will also cost, if the student chooses to stay in a home or an apartment. Those are about £10 per week.

Don’t forget transportation, £30 per week, and college supplies. These can be about £7 per week. Now these are all fixed costs. They don’t include fun, which can be very expensive in Great Britain. It’s up to the student to figure out what his or her priorities are.

Together, all these costs add up to a pretty large amount. They can also create a lot of worries, especially during exams. Luckily, by getting financial support to study in the UK, one can get rid extremely easily of all these worries.
