Course overview

Our BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling degree with Foundation Year program is designed for students who will benefit from an extra year of academic support at the start of their studies. The course serves as a stepping stone to other counselling-related credentials such as psychotherapy or Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). During your foundation level, you will learn the skills and confidence necessary to successfully complete your undergraduate degree. Following your foundation year, you will study the major areas of psychology curriculum such as social, cognitive, biological and developmental psychology, as well as research methodologies. If you lean towards studying emotional, cognitive and social processes and behaviour, the Psychology with Counselling course might be the course you are looking for. You’ll observe and understand the way in which an individual relates to others and the environment around them. This degree has been designed for curious individuals who want to learn more about the human mind and what motivates our attitude but require a little extra help before embarking on a full university degree program. Our Psychology and Counselling degree will teach you the fundamentals of psychology and counselling. Depending on your interests, you will go further into certain subjects. You will be able to study subjects as diverse as positive psychology, parapsychology and cognitive neuroscience. You'll look at how counsellors and psychologists utilise ideas and data to contribute to arguments about how we understand mental health disorders, diagnosis and treatment options, as well as how psychology is important in understanding mental health, relationships, education and employment.

Entry requirements

Fees & funding

Course fee per year: £9,250 The Tuition Fee of the course may vary depending on the institution you wish to study at, as well as your status in the UK. The course is available for UK/EU & International Students and eligible for Student Loans Company (SLC) funding to help cover the cost of your tuition fees and other expenses. If you are an UK/EU citizen or living in the UK on an Indefinite stay, apart from the tuition fees, you could also receive support from the government via Student Loans Company to cover some living costs while studying. The maintenance loan depends on each individual's circumstances.
Fees breakdown:
Tuition fee loans cover the full cost of your course and are paid directly to the course provider.
Student Finance has to be paid back, however, you only make Student Loan repayments once you've left your course AND are earning enough. Repayments vary with your salary, and stop altogether if your income drops too low.
Maintenance Loan pays for day-to-day living expenses like rent, bills, food and books. Unlike the fees loan, it's paid directly to your student bank account once a term and you can spend it on anything you like.
Students can also apply for other types of special support grants, such as childcare grants or Disabled Students' Allowance if eligible.
Moreover, almost all universities offer a selection of student bursaries. These are cash gifts you usually don't have to repay.
Please submit an enquiry to find out more or use our calculator to estimate how much Maintenance Loan you can get and how much you will have to repay per month once you finish your course.
