In a general business context, the HND in Business (General) course provides practical preparation, industry insight, and technical advice. It has been designed with a strong vocational focus to develop the skills and techniques required in business and to allow students to apply their learning in real-world situations.

Who is the HND in Business (General) Course for?

This two-year HND in Business (General) Course is ideal for students who want to improve their business understanding and capabilities, or who want to gain a higher-level qualification in business management to advance their career.

 Each unit is designed to assist students in developing knowledge and skills in a variety of business disciplines, such as national and international marketing, management, accounting, business growth, and forecasting. 

The course is ideal for those who want to complete the first two years of a Business General Degree before moving on to a one-year top-up at university to complete a full undergraduate degree.

Course Length: 2 years;

Start dates: January/April/August/September;

This HND in Business (General) Course will provide you with the skills required to work in either the private or public sectors. Students will also have solid business skills that will allow them to pursue a variety of careers in a variety of industries through roles such as:

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Applicants are required to submit proof of prior certificated learning (i.e., Secondary School Diploma/Baccalaureate/Level 3 qualification) or relevant work experience
  • Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of English language
  • An interview with the college is compulsory prior to student registration
  • Applicants must bring their original certificates when coming for registration

Assessment

This course will provide you with a solid foundation in the key knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required for a career in graphic design. Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on creativity and practical work. You will be challenged to experiment with advanced art and design projects in a creative and thoughtful manner. You will create a portfolio of art and design work using both given and self-defined briefs. You will be able to experiment with various aspects of graphic design, such as digital imaging, corporate design, contextual referencing, typography, and idea generation techniques. You will also gain a critical understanding of the historical and professional issues that are relevant to graphic design practice. Lectures, seminars, and practical laboratory sessions will be used to teach you.

You will work in groups to simulate industry practice and improve your transferable skills. Individual and group projects, visual and oral presentations, and written assignments will be used to assess you.

Progression

 

Students who successfully complete the Level 5 HND will be able to apply to many universities in the UK to study for a full degree. This course is for anyone interested in honing their design skills to a professional level and preparing a portfolio for industry, or continuing their education with a top-up third year on an appropriate BA (hons) course (e.g. Business management, Business and Law, Business and Tourism, Business and Health Care management)

Self-Funding

The Tuition Fee of the course will vary depending on the institution you wish to study in, as well as your status in the UK. The course is available for UK/EU and International Students as well. Please contact us to find out the tuition fee for a specific course you’d like to know about.

Government Funds – Student Finance England                                                                                             

This programme has been designated by the UK government for Student Finance, which means that UK/EU students may apply for Student Loans. If you are a UK or EU undergraduate student, you can apply for funding from the government. You do not have to pay your tuition fees up front if this is your first degree – you can get a tuition fee loan to cover your full course fees. You may be eligible for maintenance loan and some extra support as well, depends on your circumstances. You only start to pay back your student loan after you finish studying and are earning over £25,000 a year.

This Diploma qualification is recognised as equivalent to the Certificate of Education qualifications in the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ). Upon successful completion of the course, a student could qualify as a teacher, trainer or tutor in Further Education Colleges, Adult and community learning, Work-based learning, Training providers, Public and uniformed services training among others.
