For many of us, interviews are always characterized as intimidating moments. No matter if we are talking about a job interview, or, in our scenario, about college/university interview, this stage is a very decisive one. That’s being said, it requires a certain preparation prior to the actual interview time, so it can run smoothly for the candidate.
Because we know by heart all the tips and trick when it comes to interviews – from the way you should dress to the body language, to all the means you can highlight your skills – we have decided to put them on paper so you won’t have to dig deeper to prepare for it.

- Why have you decided to apply to us?
This question is one of the most popular ones and it shows how much you have prepared for the actual interview. A quick google search about the institution will definitely be your best friend. And in case you are not quite confident on what to focus, you can mention their reputation, the course/program they offer, or even the leisure facilities that impressed you during the open day.
- What are you hoping to gain from the course?
Their intention is to see if for you this course is perceived as a stepping stone for your future career, or if it’s an area you would like to study more in-depth.
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
If you’ve got a plan in mind, that’s great. Otherwise, don’t worry. Most of the candidates are not sure about what they will do after graduation. It is perfectly okay to say “I am not sure at the moment. I hope this course will show me the right direction.”
- What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are?
This question can be tricky sometimes. It is very easy to talk about your strengths – you are reliable, trustworthy, a game-changer, etc. If you are a great team member as well, make sure you mention it. But what to say when it comes to weaknesses? Nobody wants to talk about their flaws, but at the same time, nobody is perfect. So maybe you are too competitive sometimes when working within a team? Or get too excited about a project and forget at all about the deadline? Do you have a better plan now to stick to it?
- Do you have any questions for me?
One of the most important questions, and usually, the last one. Make sure you have 2-3 questions ready to ask. This is your chance to find the answers you were looking for. You can have questions about the course, tutors, or something that is not clear to you.

- Arrive early
Make sure you give yourself an extra 15 – 30 minutes to show punctuality. Plan your journey in advance, because this will give you time to re-read your application before the interview.
- Bring a copy of your application and your CV
They do not expect you to remember everything. So, bring with you a copy of your application and have a look at it before the interview. Bring some notes in regard to the course, institution, etc and show that you have done your research properly.
- Strike a balance between formal and causal
Make a great first impression by dressing smart. Keep it simple, and make sure you don’t look uncomfortable in your clothes, especially if you are not used to wearing suits.
- Do not let shyness or nerves to get in your way
It is perfectly normal to get nervous and be shy when it comes to interviews. However, try to focus on the subject and answer the questions naturally. Be you ?
