BMus (Hons) COMPOSITION FOR FILM, GAMES & OTHER MEDIA

Overview This course aims to develop versatile, musically trained graduates with the skills, theoretical knowledge and networks necessary to develop long-term careers as professional composers for film, TV, games and other media. You’ll learn how to compose, arrange and orchestrate for film and games. You’ll be able to use orchestras, but you’ll probably want to use a single instrument or a computer. Sound design is used for films, games and other media.   The BMUS (HONS) Composition for Film, Games & other media course will take you on a fascinating journey, and by the end of it you’ll gain superior skills in composition, framing and technology. The course is taught by industry professors and is informed by a deep understanding of the commercial music business.   FOUNDATION YEAR   BMus Contemporary Performance & Production is complemented by a foundation year course aimed at students whose musical skills need to be improved to gain entry to UG. Study at this level is designed to provide students with a structured music education, for example if you have not studied music formally at Level 3 or have previously had access to private music lessons. The course is constructed so that students learn and gain sufficient musical, industrial and study skills.It focuses on ensuring that students develop a basic level of technique on the chosen main instrument. The course also provides an introduction to music theory and basic performance, rehearsal and study skills.  We believe this course will fully prepare students for the BMUS UG courses, as they will acquire the full set of knowledge and practical skills needed to study Level 4.  Course duration: 3 years / 4 years including foundation year

Assessment

Lectures, seminars, group projects, and e-learning are among the teaching methods used. Written exams, case studies, assignments, projects, and reports are all examples of assessment methods.

Progression

Throughout the degree, you will gain gradual and progressively deeper knowledge and understanding of composition for film, games and music publishing and the recorded music sector rights and royalty streams, live event management and promotion, and the inner workings of the streaming music industry.

Self-Funding The Tuition Fee of the course will vary depending on the institution you wish to study in, as well as your status in the UK. Government Funds – Student Finance England          If you are an UK/EU citizen or living in the UK on Indefinite stay, you can receive support from the government via Student Loan Company to cover tuition fees and some living costs while studying, depending on your circumstances. Tuition fee loans, to cover the full cost of your course, are paid directly to the course provider. Maintenance loans can be applied for at the same time, lending you money at the start of each term. You won’t have to pay back the loan until after your course, when you’re earning above a certain level.  Students can still apply for grants if they’re eligible for certain benefits, disabled, or need help with childcare costs.
