Applicants must provide proof of their highest academic qualification, which can include:

  • Level 2 Qualifications or equivalent (e.g., GCSEs, Level 2 NVQ, diplomas, certificates)

 

✅ English Proficiency and Admission Process

If English is not your first language, you must complete an English language test that assesses speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. We also accept a range of other English language qualifications.

Applicants will also need to attend an interview with a member of the admissions team.

Course overview

The BA (Hons) Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing with Foundation Year is designed for students who are interested in mental health, emotional wellbeing, counselling approaches, and supporting individuals within personal, social, and community settings. The course provides an understanding of psychological wellbeing, human behaviour, communication, and the factors that influence mental health in modern society.

The Foundation Year helps students build academic confidence while introducing key concepts related to communication, social sciences, mental health awareness, research, and professional development. It provides a supportive pathway into degree-level study for students who may benefit from additional preparation.
Throughout the programme, students explore areas such as counselling skills, mental health support, wellbeing practices, human development, communication, safeguarding, ethics, and contemporary issues surrounding mental health. The course combines theoretical understanding with practical application, encouraging students to develop empathy, active listening, critical thinking, and professional interpersonal skills.

Students also gain transferable skills including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, emotional awareness, organisation, and professional practice, preparing them for people-focused careers within health, wellbeing, education, and support services.

Fees & funding

Course fee per year: £9.535

The Tuition Fee of the course may vary depending on the institution you wish to study at, as well as your status in the UK. The course is available for UK/EU & International Students and eligible for Student Loans Company (SLC) funding to help cover the cost of your tuition fees and other expenses.

If you are an UK/EU citizen or living in the UK on an Indefinite stay, apart from the tuition fees, you could also receive support from the government via Student Loans Company to cover some living costs while studying.
