HND Civil Engineering
Created specifically for students interested in civil engineering and construction, the Construction and Built Environment (Civil Engineering) course will develop you as a professional and self-reflecting individual able to meet all the requirements within the sector. The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Construction and Built Environment (Civil Engineering) will help you develop strong communication skills in order to manage projects, on-site teams and client requirements. The objectives of the course are as follows: The range of skills acquired during the study years will be most relevant to construction technology, construction practice, construction management and legal responsibilities in construction. Course Length: 2 years; Year 1: Year 2: *Modules may vary depending on the chosen institution. Assessment The assessment is based on assignments, typically one assignment per unit. These assignments will vary and include a mix of formal reports, presentations and practical tasks. You won’t have to write any exams during your HND, instead you will focus on gaining practical, applicable skills through real-world case studies and group and individual assignments. Learners are assessed using a variety of methods, including group work, tutorials, lectures, seminars, presentations, essays, role play and case study analyses. All units will be individually graded as ‘pass, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’. You must pass all 8 units to achieve a higher certificate and all 16 units to achieve a higher diploma. Progression After completion you can progress to the 3rd year at university and apply for a Top-Up course such as BA/BSc (Hons) Top-up degree in Engineering – Civil. Student Loans available. Self-Funding The Tuition Fee of the course may vary depending on the institution you have chosen, as well as your status in the UK. Government Funds – Student Finance England If you are an UK/EU citizen or living in the UK on Indefinite stay, you can receive support from the government via Student Loan Company to cover tuition fees and some living costs while studying, depending on your circumstances. Tuition fee loan, which is covering the full cost of your course, will be paid directly to the course provider. You can apply for a Maintenance loan at the same time, which will help you cover some of your expenses. This loan will be paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term. You won’t have to pay back the loans until one year after your graduation, when you’ll earn over a threshold set by Student Loan. Students can also apply for other grants subject to availability and eligibility, such as grants for disability, or for childcare costs.
