Assessment

This course will provide you with a solid foundation in the key knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required for a career in graphic design. Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on creativity and practical work. You will be challenged to experiment with advanced art and design projects in a creative and thoughtful manner. You will create a portfolio of art and design work using both given and self-defined briefs. You will be able to experiment with various aspects of graphic design, such as digital imaging, corporate design, contextual referencing, typography, and idea generation techniques. You will also gain a critical understanding of the historical and professional issues that are relevant to graphic design practice. Lectures, seminars, and practical laboratory sessions will be used to teach you. You will work in groups to simulate industry practice and improve your transferable skills. Individual and group projects, visual and oral presentations, and written assignments will be used to assess you.

Progression

Students who successfully complete the Level 5 HND will be able to apply to many universities in the UK to study for a full degree. APPLIED SCIENCES (BIOLOGY)

Overview If you have an interest in biology, work in a science-related field, or want to further your education locally to obtain a higher level qualification while working, “Applied Science (Biology) course allows you to obtain a nationally recognised level 4 or 5 qualification. This course is intended to expose you to Level 4 and 5 Biology with the goal of boosting your employability and preparing you for careers in these fields. This programme has been designated by the UK government for Student Finance, which means that UK/EU students may apply for Student Loans. HND Education and Training (DET)

HND Education and Training (DET) | This qualification is based on structures recognised by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS). It is designed for teachers or trainers in the post-compulsory education sector or individuals who wish to acquire a nationally recognised qualification in teaching and are not yet employed as teachers.

It is also suitable for those who train, teach or assess others regularly or have similar roles within voluntary or community activity.

About Education and Training

The HND Education and Training (DET) Diploma is the ultimate qualification for teaching or training and has been developed in conjunction with Ofqual and is recognised by the Society for Education and Training. The Diploma in Education and Training is a recognised route to gaining Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, enabling you to teach in schools, colleges and further education.

This HND Education and Training (DET) course will enable you to take a practical and analytical approach to all the aspects of training and education, from planning and designing learning to teaching, assessing and supporting learners. You will also cover the theories and principles of education and training and embed these in your teaching and practice.

Candidates who complete this qualification will take an analytical, reflective and practical approach to planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Whilst doing this, candidates will embed theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their practice.

The qualification aims to allow trainee teachers the flexibility to teach in a wide range of contexts. Including teaching across more than one level, teaching a variety of learners, teaching individuals and groups; experiencing non-teaching roles; gaining subject specialist knowledge through workplace mentoring. The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) not only gives you expertise and the chance to investigate the theories and current practices of education but also allows you to demonstrate that you can transfer the findings of your research and investigation into your teaching practice. As a Level 5 teaching qualification, the course content is the same as a PGCE (Post-Graduate Certificate in Education) in Lifelong Learning. Assessment

The programme is delivered through a variety of methods which are helpful for learners to link theory and practice. Students are encouraged to become reflective practitioners. They will study various theories and legislation, learn how to plan, deliver, assess and evaluate. Furthermore they will consider teaching and learning for a range of groups and individuals.

The Diploma in education and training course includes face-to-face training days, one to one tutorials, workplace assessment and the completion of all mandatory and optional assignments as well as a teaching practice portfolio. During this programme, there will be opportunities for workshops, discussions, and group work to support what has been studied. All students will be guided at every step towards achieving their goals.

In order to achieve this qualification successfully, students will need to demonstrate a depth of knowledge and understanding of each unit. Each student will be required to conduct his/her own independent research, and show evidence of their reading and research by maintaining an ongoing reflective journal of their practice and development.

Students will be assessed using centre devised Written Assignments, Portfolio Building, Self and Peer Assessments, as well as Presentations including Group Presentations. All assignments are graded as a Pass.

Progression

On successful completion of the DET course, students can apply for their Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS) status or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through the Education and Training Foundation (ETF).

Learners who have achieved the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training as per the Qualification & Credit Framework (QCF) can Top Up their qualification to a BA (Hons) in related field such us Education Studies, Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, Professional Practice, Primary Initial Teacher Education or Level 7 Diploma in Assessment Management (QCF).

Assessment

You are required to complete substantial amount of practical work which must be evidenced through, sketchbooks, annotation of work, and producing an end outcomes based on a theme/tasks. The work completed will form part of your course assessment. It is assessed and graded internally by a combination of: practical work with end outcomes, presentations, exhibitions and written work. The work produced will relate to specific unit assignments.

Progression

Learners who have complete this course should be able to progress to the final year of a degree programme BA/BSc Top Up in Creative Media Production or related field.

Assessment

Assessment is based on assignments, typically one assignment per unit. These assignments will vary and include a mix of formal reports, presentations and practical tasks, but there will be no formal exams.  You won’t have to write any exams during your HND; instead you will focus on gaining practical, applicable skills through real-world case studies and group and individual assignments.  Learners are assessed using a variety of methods, including group work, tutorials, lectures, seminars presentations, role play and case study analyses, written assignments. All units will be individually graded as ‘passes, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’. To achieve a full qualification you must pass all 8 units to achieve the higher certificate and all 16 units to achieve the higher diploma.

Progression

The HND in Travel and Tourism Management is a two-year full-time higher education course, providing natural progression onto further higher education courses. The HND in Travel and Tourism Management can be extended to a full degree (Bachelor) by undertaking a third year degree (Top-Up) at university in a related field of Tourism and Hospitality.

Government Funds – Student Finance England 

This programme has been designated by the UK government for Student Finance, which means that UK/EU students may apply for Student Loans. If you are a UK or EU undergraduate student, you can apply for funding from the government. You do not have to pay your tuition fees up front if this is your first degree – you can get a tuition fee loan to cover your full course fees. You may be eligible for maintenance loan and some extra support as well, depends on your circumstances. You only start to pay back your student loan after you finish studying and are earning over £25,000 a year.

The HND Health and Social Care course have been designed to equip individuals with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for employment in Health & Social Care, both in the UK and overseas. These qualifications meet and exceed the National minimum standard of qualification set by the Care Quality Commission for those practising in Health & Social Care in the UK.

The course prepare and equip students with knowledge and skills in the practice and management of Health and Social Care programmes leading to employment or further and higher education to degree level.

The course is suitable also for all those already working in the sector who wish to gain practical skills and a formal Level 5 qualification in order to progress to supervisor or junior management level roles

Course Length:  2 years;

Students will gain a qualification that will support progression into job roles with greater responsibility within this sector, for example, supervisory and management roles. Upon successful completion of the course and/or completion of further specialist study, job roles may include; Care Home Manager, Social Care Worker, Midwife, Paramedic, Health Care Trainer, Safeguarding Officer, or Public Health Personnel.

Minimum Age: 18 years old;
Applicants are required to submit proof of prior certificated learning (e.g. Secondary School Diploma/Baccalaureate/Level 3 qualification) or relevant work experience;
Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language;
An interview with the college is compulsory prior student registration.

Assessment

Assessment is based on assignments, typically one assignment per unit. These assignments will vary and include a mix of formal reports, presentations and practical tasks, but there will be no formal exams.  You won’t have to write any exams during your HND; instead you will focus on gaining practical, applicable skills through real-world case studies and group and individual assignments.  Learners are assessed using a variety of methods, including group work, tutorials, lectures, seminars presentations, role play and case study analyses, written assignments. All units will be individually graded as ‘passes, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’. To achieve a full qualification you must pass all 8 units to achieve the higher certificate and all 16 units to achieve the higher diploma.

Progression

The majority of students graduating from this course progress to a one year top-up degree at university in a related field. There are optional university higher education courses in fields such as Nursing, Social Work, Teaching Psychology, Sociology, Health Studies, Social Policy, or Health Care Management. Alternatively, you could take up employment with a Health or Social care related organisation.

HND Graphic Design

HND Graphic Design course will provide you with an opportunity to work in the graphics industry sector. This programme will help you to develop the knowledge, understanding and methods required by todays graphic designers. It is a great blend of theory and practice and aims to produce designers capable of confidently solving a breadth of visual design problems. The aim of the HND Graphic Design is to enable you to develop conceptual, cultural, creative and practical skills and to encourage flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a basis for future studies and career development.

What the HND Graphic Design course will do for you

The HND Graphic Design will enable you to develop your creative ability and technical graphic skills, allowing you to determine the career path you wish to take. The course is delivered via a combination of practical workshops, lectures, one-to-one tutorials and field trips to galleries and museums. You will engage in creating your own portfolio and will have the choice to specialise within a discipline of your choice, such as illustration, digital media, advertising or typography. You will study a range of practical subjects, including graphics software, photography and video.  The qualification prepares learners for employment in the design sector and will be suitable for learners who have already decided that they wish to enter this area of work. HND in Graphic Design will allow you progression into or within employment in the design sector, either directly on achievement of the award or following further study to degree level.

This course enables further development and exploration of your studies to HND level. You will build on your prior learning to explore advanced typography along with design projects based around: corporate identity and advertising (for print and screen). Live/competition work is a major part of the programme. The course culminates in a negotiated final major project and exhibition.

A large part of the course will stretch you in terms of cultural understanding and the interpretation of it in contemporary and historical design and although this course will give you a vocational training that will ready you for industry, it will also act as a tool to open your mind, make new associations in your environment and will make you begin to question the depth and originality of responses.

The course is aimed at students wanting to develop a career in various strands of the Graphic Design industry such as magazine design, publishing, branding and design agencies, art direction and advertising, website design, work in the television and film industries, founding their own design studio, further study and research. Assessment

On this course you will develop thorough grounding in the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for a career in graphic design. The strong emphasis throughout the course is on creativity and practical work. You will be challenged to experiment with advanced projects in art and design in an imaginative and considered way. You will work with both given and self-defined briefs to create a portfolio of art and design work. You will be given an opportunity to explore different areas of graphic design, such as, digital imaging, corporate design, and contextual referencing, typography and idea generation techniques. You will also develop a critical awareness of the historical and professional issues relevant to graphic design practice. You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and practical laboratory sessions. You will be working in teams to simulate industry practice and further enhance your transferable skills. You will be assessed through individual and group projects, visual and oral presentations and written assignments.

Progression

On successful completion of the Level 5 HND, students will have the opportunity to apply to study for a full degree at many universities in the UK. This course is for anyone interested in developing their design skills to a professional level and preparing their portfolio for industry or continuing their education with a top-up third year on an appropriate BA (hons) course (e.g. graphic design, illustration, animation, web design/interactive design, advertising, games design etc.).

HND Computing and Systems Development

The HND Computing and Systems Development’s aim is to use technology to enhance the speed and efficiency of the transfer of information. The broad choice of computing modules and significant project work enables you to customise your award in your area of interest.
