BA (Hons) Computer Games Design

Overview BA (Hons) Computer Games Design focuses on the creative, artistic, and technical aspects of games production, giving you the theoretical and practical skills to develop, produce and publish game titles. From the first day of the course until the last, you will be designing and making playable games.  Develop the real-world skills needed to create computer games for console, desktop and mobile platforms. You’ll work on real business briefs and learn from industry-experienced lecturers who have worked for Rebellion, Headstrong Games, 2K Games and Sony. You’ll design and develop games while pursuing an area that interests you, such as 3D modelling, level design, UX or animation. You’ll gain valuable experience working individually and in teams with games programmers and artists on small as well as large-scale game projects, including indie games for iOS and Android. You’ll learn in our new computing suites that are equipped with the latest hardware such as Sony and Nintendo development kits, Oculus Rift, HTC VIVE, PlayStation VR, HoloLens, Motion Capture suite, Game consoles, 3D printers and robots. All our PCs run industry-standard software including Adobe CC, Autodesk 3DS Max, Z-Brush, Substance Painter, Unreal and Unity.  Course length: 3 years Start dates: January/April/August/September

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Applicants are required to submit proof of prior certificated learning (i.e., Secondary School Diploma/Baccalaureate/Level 3 qualification) or relevant work experience
  • Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of English language
  • An interview with the college is compulsory prior to student registration

Assessment

This course will provide you with a solid foundation in the key knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required for a career in graphic design. Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on creativity and practical work. You will be challenged to experiment with advanced art and design projects in a creative and thoughtful manner. You will create a portfolio of art and design work using both given and self-defined briefs. You will be able to experiment with various aspects of graphic design, such as digital imaging, corporate design, contextual referencing, typography, and idea generation techniques. You will also gain a critical understanding of the historical and professional issues that are relevant to graphic design practice. Lectures, seminars, and practical laboratory sessions will be used to teach you.

You will work in groups to simulate industry practice and improve your transferable skills. Individual and group projects, visual and oral presentations, and written assignments will be used to assess you.

Progression

Students who successfully complete the Level 5 HND will be able to apply to many universities in the UK to study for a full degree. This course is for anyone interested in honing their design skills to a professional level and preparing a portfolio for industry, or continuing their education with a top-up third year on an appropriate BA (hons) course

Self-Funding The Tuition Fee of the course will vary depending on the institution you wish to study in, as well as your status in the UK. The course is available for UK/EU and International Students as well. Please contact us to find out the tuition fee for a specific course you’d like to know about. Government Funds – Student Finance England          If you are an UK/EU citizen or living in the UK on Indefinite stay, you can receive support from the government via Student Loan Company to cover tuition fees and some living costs while studying, depending on your circumstances. Tuition fee loans, to cover the full cost of your course, are paid directly to the course provider. Maintenance loans can be applied for at the same time, lending you money at the start of each term. You won’t have to pay back the loan until after your course, when you’re earning above a certain level.  Students can still apply for grants if they’re eligible for certain benefits, disabled, or need help with childcare costs.
