HND Public Services

The Public Services course is structured to meet the needs of students wishing to pursue a career in Public and Emergency services. 

It will help you to improve your skills and understanding of the sector, you’ll learn how to identify and solve public service-related issues, as well as how to use communication and information technology effectively.

How the Public Services course can help you

Furthermore, you’ll expand your knowledge in terms of major incidents, human psychology and sociology, criminology health and safety and your own personal efficiency during certain situations where public services are employed. 

This course will offer you both the theoretical knowledge needed to understand the decision-making process and practical skills required in Public Services sector, as well as offering a particular focus on all units of the sector, so it would be easier for you to choose your career pathway after graduation.

At the same time, this course will help you expand critical skills such as time management, teamwork, communication, self-motivation and develop an understanding of the sensitivity openness required to work with certain groups of people.

  • Applicants are required to submit proof of the highest qualification obtained (e.g., Secondary School diploma/Baccalaureate/Level 3 Diploma) or relevant work experience
  • Overseas learners must demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of English language
  • Applicants must attend an interview with a member of the admission team
  • Applicants must bring the original certificates at the moment of registration

Assessment.

The assessment is based on assignments, typically one assignment per unit. These assignments will vary and include a mix of formal reports, presentations and practical tasks.  

You won’t have to write any exams during your HND, instead you will focus on gaining practical, applicable skills through real-world case studies and group and individual assignments.  

Learners are assessed using a variety of methods, including group work, tutorials, lectures, seminars, presentations, essays, role play and case study analyses. All units will be individually graded as ‘pass, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’. 

You must pass all 8 units to achieve a higher certificate and all 16 units to achieve a higher diploma.

Progression.

After completion you can progress to the 3rd year at university and apply for a Top-Up course such as BA/BSc (Hons) in Public Services, Criminology, Policing, Uniformed and Public Services, Public Services and the Community, Applied Social Science.

Student Loans available.

Self-Funding

The Tuition Fee of the course may vary depending on the institution you have chosen, as well as your status in the UK. The course is available for UK/EU and International Students as well.

Government Funds – Student Finance England

If you are an UK/EU citizen or living in the UK on Indefinite stay, you can receive support from the government via Student Loan Company to cover tuition fees and some living costs while studying, depending on your circumstances. 

Tuition fee loans, which cover the full cost of your course, are paid directly to the course provider. 

You can apply for a Maintenance loan at the same time, which will help you cover some of your expenses. This loan will be paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term. 

You won’t have to pay back the loan until one after your graduation, when you’ll earn over a threshold set by Student Loan.  

Students can also apply for other grants subject to availability and eligibility, such as grants for disability, or for childcare costs.
