Course overview
Physical activity and sports play an important role in today’s global society, from coaching and rehabilitating athletes to competing in international competitions.
The program is a fantastic introduction to studying sport science at university, and it will offer you with the information, abilities, and confidence needed to study at the university level. The Sport and Exercise Science with Foundation Year program is excellent for applicants who do not meet the entry requirements for the three-year degree or who would benefit from an additional year of study in order to pursue a science subject.
The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science with Foundation Year programme is designed for students who are interested in sport and want to learn how the human body works.
This course offers a comprehensive and intellectually stimulating education in Sport and Exercise Science, empowering students to reach their full academic and professional potential. By providing diverse study options, we enable you to choose the optimal learning approach that suits you best. Our curriculum encourages the exploration of sport and exercise as a distinct and interdisciplinary field, with profound connections to broader ethical and moral considerations.
Furthermore, our program aims to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and critical comprehension of the fundamental domains within Sport and Exercise Science, along with their practical applications in sports performance and overall well-being. Students pursuing joint honours at levels two and three have the opportunity to specialise in one of these subjects, while major and single honours students can explore multiple areas of expertise.
Ultimately, our course equips students with advanced inquiry and analysis techniques, fostering their development as versatile professionals in their chosen field. We aspire to cultivate a comprehensive skill set that allows graduates to excel as practitioners who possess a deep understanding of their discipline.
The sport and exercise science sector is thriving, as evidenced by the marginal gains philosophy of professional sport and the growing number of bioapps and fitness trackers that dominate the health and leisure arena.
A current innovation of our degree is the incorporation of the most recent psychophysiological and neuroscientific research in sport and exercise, in addition to addressing the fundamental areas of psychology, physiology, biomechanics, and skill learning.
This helps you to bridge traditional subject boundaries and graduate with an understanding of how the many fields of sport and exercise science interrelate. This collection of skills is exactly what a modern, forward-thinking sport and exercise scientist requires for a successful professional career in elite sport, business, exercise, rehabilitation, or health.

The Tuition Fee of the course may vary depending on the institution you wish to study at, as well as your status in the UK. The course is available for UK/EU & International Students and eligible for Student Loans Company (SLC) funding to help cover the cost of your tuition fees and other expenses.
If you are an UK/EU citizen or living in the UK on an Indefinite stay, apart from the tuition fees, you could also receive support from the government via Student Loans Company to cover some living costs while studying.
Fees breakdown
- Tuition fee loans cover the full cost of your course and are paid directly to the course provider.
- Maintenance Loan pays for day-to-day living expenses like rent, bills, food and books. Unlike the fees loan, it's paid directly to your student bank account once a term and you can spend it on anything you like.
- Student Finance has to be paid back, however, you only make Student Loan repayments once you've left your course AND are earning enough. Repayments vary with your salary, and stop altogether if your income drops too low.
- Students can also apply for other types of special support grants, such as childcare grants or Disabled Students' Allowance if eligible.
- Moreover, almost all universities offer a selection of student bursaries. These are cash gifts you usually don't have to repay.
