Course overview

The application of scientific principles to human performance via the multidisciplinary techniques of physiology, psychology, and biomechanics is the focus of the BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science with Foundation Year.

Physical activity and sports play an important role in today’s global society, from coaching and rehabilitating athletes to competing in international competitions.
The program is a fantastic introduction to studying sport science at university, and it will offer you with the information, abilities, and confidence needed to study at the university level. The Sport and Exercise Science with Foundation Year program is excellent for applicants who do not meet the entry requirements for the three-year degree or who would benefit from an additional year of study in order to pursue a science subject.

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science with Foundation Year programme is designed for students who are interested in sport and want to learn how the human body works.

Furthermore, our program aims to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and critical comprehension of the fundamental domains within Sport and Exercise Science, along with their practical applications in sports performance and overall well-being. Students pursuing joint honours at levels two and three have the opportunity to specialise in one of these subjects, while major and single honours students can explore multiple areas of expertise.

Ultimately, our course equips students with advanced inquiry and analysis techniques, fostering their development as versatile professionals in their chosen field. We aspire to cultivate a comprehensive skill set that allows graduates to excel as practitioners who possess a deep understanding of their discipline.

The sport and exercise science sector is thriving, as evidenced by the marginal gains philosophy of professional sport and the growing number of bioapps and fitness trackers that dominate the health and leisure arena.

A current innovation of our degree is the incorporation of the most recent psychophysiological and neuroscientific research in sport and exercise, in addition to addressing the fundamental areas of psychology, physiology, biomechanics, and skill learning.
